naturally grown : the way God intended

about

Located in NW Winchester, VA, Pure Roots Farmstead is a small farm based on Regenerative Farming Principles, restoring our soil to optimal health using only natural methods (i.e. no pesticides or chemicals allowed – ever!)

This involves adding nutrients to the soil, using processes to increase the soil micro-organisms and fungi that benefit the plants and create a soil-food web that becomes its own mini-ecosystem.  This is where the healthiest, best-tasting vegetables come from.

At Pure Roots Farmstead we believe that you should be able to eat and enjoy fresh, natural food grown in your local community.

We never use herbicides, pesticides, fungicides or treated seeds. Instead, we focus on adding compost, a wide range of natural nutrients, and lots of love to produce nutritious, healthy food.

no-till farming

No-till farming is basically the concept of working with the soil in a similar way that is found in nature. We try our best to disturb the soil as little as possible, while also adding to the soil with organic matter and natural types of nutrition.

Using natural methods, we foster the symbiotic relationships between the various types of microbes  in the soil and the vegetables, establishing “root-relationships” which allows the plants optimal growth and health.

The goal is to establish a localized ecosystem on the farm where all the pieces fit together toward a more sustainable system.

This builds up the soil, rather than taking away from it. It is all about creating health in the soil, which then is transferred to health in our own lives.

Our small-scale, regenerative system is based on permaculture principles and no-till soil management.
